The California Club operated from 1958 to 1973. Phil Long took over operation of the casino located at the corner of First and Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada, 1958. The locals casino catered to local gamblers. It was owned and operated by Phil Long and partner George Milford and was a casino only without any hotel rooms. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the California Hotel, Main Street Station, and the Fremont Hotel might remain closed along the Fremont Street Experience, citing a reliance on tourism. The Fremont Street Experience is totally lame and vulgar, they should remove that light show canopy and let the casinos relish in their period style, but on the street beyond the 'experience' are some good restaurants that are proving that Las Vegas can be a real city also if it wants to.
